Meet Rach...

Updated: Apr 4, 2019

Hi there I'm Rach Bird.

My passion in this work is helping people, specifically women, to rediscover their vitality. So I guess I'm a Vitality Coach. But I'm also a Wellness Coach, a Naturopath, a Medical Herbalist, a Life Style Coach and I teach the odd Pilates class.

There are lots of different "titles" that get used, but at the end of the day I am passionate about helping people get their vitality back. 'Vitality' can mean a lot of different things but my definition is when someone gets their purpose back or the "oomph" back that makes life good. Regardless of what specific health concerns clients have, I'm honoured to ‘walk alongside' them and see them blossom in their health and wellbeing. I’m continually blown away, for myself as well as for my clients and friends, by how the process of someone actually walking along with you on your journey can make such a huge difference.

I'll give you a little background so you can get a feel for where I've come from and why I do what I do.

I started in the corporate world after graduating from Canterbury University with a BA in Psychology and a commerce major in Business and Marketing. During my first couple of years "climbing the corporate ladder" I had just gotten married and travelled to South America. On our return I was diagnosed with endometriosis. I went to see a Naturopath in Auckland for fertility help and one thing led to another and three years later I had a Diploma in Herbal Medicine and a Diploma in Naturopathy from South Pacific College of Natural Medicine and a Bachelor of Health Science from Charles Sturt Uni in Australia. I also did a little training during that time with Francesca Naish in Natural Fertility Management. I actually didn't get pregnant but oh my was my body "clean". And in my final year we undertook our first IVF (lesson number one from the Universe - NEVER say NEVER people!!) and I got pregnant.

Fast forward a few years (and a few more lessons!!) and I was pretty unwell. I'd worked part time, when my 2 kids were little, running my own clinic. I also taught herbal medicine for a little while but eventually stopped work completely to be a stay at home Mum. At the time I was having trouble coping with my day-to-day life, let alone adding anything else in! Fast forward some more and things got pretty grim. Eventually I was fortunate enough to end up as a client of one of New Zealand's most prominent nutritionists and holistic health clinicians (at his clinic here in Hawke's Bay). It changed my life and I am eternally grateful to him and his team for that. So enamoured was I with the holistic and scientific approach that he took, I ended up working for him as a Clinical Consultant and Clinical Team Manager for three years. It helped me grow as a clinician/coach/naturopath/herbalist/human being.

How do I work? Well - I approach consultations in the same way that I approach life. With empathy, with caring, with knowledge, with humour, with a no bullshit approach (that'll be the half Dutch coming out) and without judgement.

I know that "passion" can be an over utilised word - but passion is what I have for this work. I am passionate about pre-conception care, about fertility, about hormone health, about mental wellness, about post natal depression and anxiety, about energy, about gut health, about liver function, about weight loss, about kids health. I am passionate about helping clients live the life they deserve and love it.

I do this through functional testing (this is not a pre-requisite though, I'll discuss all options with you and we will make a plan together), lifestyle guidance and nutritional health support. There will always be a personalised plan for each client.

I have my own story and I really care about my clients. I had help getting to where I am and achieving a healthier, happier life and I want the same for all my clients.
